How It works

Step 1

Create a campaign

Let us help you raise funds for your medical needs. We make it easy to create and launch a medical funding campaign, raise funds from people all over the world, and get the care you need! At Pay for Med, we verify every campaign on our platform. Our easy step by step guide makes it easy for you to create a medical campaign on our platform. Tell your story, tell everyone about yourself, what help you need, and what support you need. Set your Pay for Med fundraising goal. Tell us how much you need for your medical needs. We verify every campaign on our platform.

Step 2

Share the campaign with friends

Once the campaign goes live, feel free to share it with family and friends. The more people you share your campaign with, the more awareness you create. Share your campaigns through emails, texts, and through all your social media.

Step 3

We handle payments

You have done the hard part of creating your campaign and sharing it. Let Pay for Med handle all the payments. Every payment raised on Pay for Med is given directly to the medical facility associated with the campaign. No payment goes to the individual raising the funds.

Where the money goes

Money on PayForMed moves in one direction: toward a medical bill.

A PayForMed wallet is a closed system. Funds can be added by card or bank transfer, and once inside they can only do three things: pay a bill at a healthcare facility registered on PayForMed, donate to a campaign on PayForMed, or move to another PayForMed wallet so a family can pool what they have. Funds cannot be withdrawn, cashed out, sent to a bank account, or spent anywhere else.

The only way money leaves PayForMed is a registered healthcare facility being paid for care it provided. Before a facility can be paid, we confirm it appears on the Nigeria Health Facility Registry, verify its registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and confirm it holds a business bank account in the facility's name. Payment goes to that account and no other.

That is the whole system. No patient, donor, campaign creator or member of our staff can take money out of it.

How we verify a campaign

Every campaign creator verifies their identity against Nigeria's national identity database (NIN) before a campaign can be published. We do not store the identity number itself.

The medical bill uploaded with a campaign is then checked against what the creator entered: the total amount, the facility that issued it, and the patient it names all have to match. A campaign is held for review by our team if any of those disagree, if the document is unclear or undated, if the bill is more than 60 days old, if the same bill has already been used, or if the amount is unusually large.

No campaign appears on PayForMed until a member of our team has reviewed and approved it.

What it costs

Your donation goes in full to the patient's bill. A platform fee of 5.8% is added on top of your donation and is shown before you pay. It covers payment processing, identity checks and campaign verification.

If you give in US dollars, we convert your donation to naira at our exchange rate, which is shown before you pay. Our rate includes a margin over the market rate, which covers currency conversion and the cost of moving money internationally.

Example

A ₦10,000 donation paid in naira costs you ₦10,580. The facility receives ₦10,000.

PayForMed is not a registered charity, and donations are not tax-deductible. Donations can be refunded while a campaign is open. See our Refund Policy.
