Paying a bill, starting a campaign, giving, the care wallet, or joining as a facility. Can't find your answer? Email [email protected].
PayForMed helps families in Nigeria pay for medical care. You can pay a hospital or pharmacy bill directly, raise money for a verified bill with a campaign, give to a health fund, or keep money in a care wallet for your family's care.
Every payment goes to a verified healthcare facility, never to an individual. That is how we make sure the money pays for care.
So every naira pays for care. When you pay or give on PayForMed, the money is applied to a specific bill at a specific facility. No patient, campaign creator, donor or member of our staff can take money out of PayForMed.
This also protects donors from fake appeals: there is no way to raise money on PayForMed and spend it on anything other than a medical bill.
We pay healthcare facilities registered in Nigeria. People can pay and give from almost anywhere in the world, in naira or US dollars for campaigns.
Because of international sanctions, we can't accept payments from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia, or the occupied regions of Ukraine.
No. PayForMed is not a registered charity, and payments and donations made through PayForMed are not tax-deductible.

For anyone paying an invoice a hospital, clinic or pharmacy has issued on PayForMed.
Open the invoice link you were sent, or go to Pay a bill on payformed.com or in the app and enter the invoice number. You'll see the facility, the amount due and what has already been paid. Pay by card and you're done.
No. Enter your name, email and phone number so we can send your receipt, then pay by card. You only need an account for a care wallet.
The facility gives it to the patient when it issues the bill. Patients with a PayForMed account also get it by email, text message and in the app. The patient can copy the number or the link and share it with anyone who wants to help pay.
When you pay by card, a platform fee of 5.8% is added on top of the bill amount and shown before you pay. The facility receives the full bill amount.
A ₦50,000 bill paid by card costs you ₦52,900. The facility receives ₦50,000.
Paying from a care wallet adds no fee at checkout.
Only if the facility allows part payments on that invoice. If it does, you can enter any amount up to the balance due, and others can pay the rest. If it doesn't, the invoice can only be paid in full.
Yes, you can pay from abroad with a card issued in your country. Bills are charged in naira, and your bank converts the amount to your currency.
Everyone involved. You get a receipt by email. The facility is told straight away, and so is the patient, by email and in the app.
Most failed card payments are stopped by the card's bank, not by PayForMed. Try these:
A failed payment isn't taken from your account. If your bank shows a hold, your bank releases it.
Payments usually show within a few minutes. We also check every unconfirmed payment with our payment processor every 30 minutes, and record any that went through.
If it's been more than an hour, or you were charged twice, email [email protected] with the date, the amount and the email you paid with. We'll find it, and refund any duplicate charge.
Payments made directly to a facility's invoice are applied to the bill straight away and can't be refunded, except in cases of error or fraud. If something went wrong, email [email protected].
For patients and families raising money for a bill.
A campaign is a fundraising page for one verified medical bill at a facility registered on PayForMed. Family and friends give to it from anywhere, and everything raised is paid to that facility.
Anyone raising money for their own care or for a family member's, as long as the bill is from a facility registered on PayForMed. You'll need to verify your identity with your NIN before the campaign can go live.
First, the campaign creator verifies their identity against Nigeria's national identity database (NIN). We don't store the NIN itself.
Then we check the bill against what you entered: the amount, the facility and the patient's name must all match. A campaign is held for review if anything disagrees, if the bill is unclear, undated or more than 60 days old, if the same bill has already been used, or if the amount is unusually large.
No campaign goes live until a member of our team has reviewed and approved it.
Every campaign is reviewed by a member of our team before it goes live. We'll email you as soon as your campaign is approved, or if we need anything else from you.
Not yet. Campaigns can only pay facilities we've verified. Ask the hospital to join PayForMed at facilities.payformed.com, or email [email protected] and we'll help.
Until it reaches its goal, or 90 days after it was published, whichever comes first.
Everything raised still goes to the facility as part payment of the bill. That reduces what the patient owes.
Share your campaign link on WhatsApp, in family and church groups, and on social media. Campaigns that are shared early and often raise the most. We'll email you when you get new donations and when you reach milestones.
Yes. Completed campaigns stay on the site and in the app, so you can see bills that PayForMed donors have paid in full.
All of it. A platform fee of 5.8% is added on top of your donation and shown before you pay. It covers payment processing, identity checks and campaign verification.
A ₦10,000 donation costs you ₦10,580. The facility receives ₦10,000.
No. Enter your name and email for your receipt and pay by card.
Yes. We convert your donation to naira at our exchange rate, which is shown before you pay. Our rate includes a margin over the market rate to cover currency conversion and the cost of moving money internationally.
Yes. Choose "Give anonymously" and your name won't appear on the campaign. We still send you a receipt.
You can ask for a refund at any time while the campaign is still open. We refund to the card you paid with, in the currency you paid in. The platform fee isn't refunded.
Once a campaign closes, the money has been applied to the patient's bill and can't be refunded. If a campaign turns out to be fraudulent, every donor gets a full refund, including the fee. See our Refund Policy for details.
A health fund pools donations for a cause, such as treatment for a particular condition. Instead of giving to one patient, you give to the fund, and it pays for treatment at our partner clinics for patients who need it.
A partner clinic asks the fund to pay a patient's invoice and explains why. Our team reviews each request before any money is paid, and the payment goes to the clinic for that invoice.
Yes, on funds that offer it. Choose "Give monthly" on the fund's page. Each email receipt has a link to change or cancel your monthly gift at any time.
Each fund shows its minimum on its page. For most funds it's ₦500. The same 5.8% platform fee is added on top.
A care wallet holds money for your family's medical care. You top it up by card, and the money can only do three things:
You need a free PayForMed account to have a wallet.
No. Wallet money can't be withdrawn, cashed out or sent to a bank account. That's what makes it safe to send money for someone's care: it can only be spent on care.
Your PMED number is your PayForMed ID, for example PMED123456. You'll find it in your account. Give it to your hospital or pharmacy, and they can send bills straight to you: you'll get them by email, text message and in the app, ready to pay.
At a facility that shows a PayForMed QR code, open the app, tap Scan to pay, scan the code, check the amount and enter your wallet PIN. The facility sees the payment straight away.
Yes. They can top up their own wallet and move money to yours, or pay your bills directly with the invoice number.
Our Android app is coming soon to Google Play, with iPhone to follow. In the app you can browse campaigns, give, pay bills and find facilities without signing in. Sign in to use your care wallet, pay at the counter and see bills sent to you.
Yes, if you allow notifications. We'll tell you about new bills, payments, receipts and your campaigns' progress. Tapping a notification opens the bill or campaign it's about. We never put medical details in a notification.
Yes. Find care lists every verified facility on PayForMed. You can search by name, city, state or type, get directions, and call them.
Go to facilities.payformed.com and find your facility's listing, or add a new one. We'll confirm your contact details, then ask for your CAC registration and a business bank account in the facility's name.
Before we pay you, we confirm your facility appears on the Nigeria Health Facility Registry, verify your CAC registration and check that the bank account belongs to the facility.
In the facility portal, create an invoice and either enter the patient's PMED number or add their details. The patient is told by email, text message and in the app, and can share the invoice number with family who want to help pay. You choose whether to allow part payments.
Payments are sent to your facility's verified business bank account, and never to anyone else. You can track every payment and payout under Money in the facility portal.
Yes. Your listing has a "Start a campaign here" link, and campaigns for your patients show up in your portal so you can confirm the bill.
Yes. Card payments are handled by Flutterwave, a licensed payment processor, on its secure payment page. PayForMed never sees or stores your card number.
We only use it to verify campaigns and process payments. We don't store your NIN, and we never share your medical details with donors beyond what you choose to put in your campaign story. See our Privacy Policy for details.
